FAQ

What is hand embellishing?

Hand embellishing entails Louis personally reinvigorating the artwork by picking out singular details from the original with reflective pearlescent and gold detailing. This is the same detailing that goes into the original Oil On Canvas works.
Hand embellishing your artwork captures the evening and daylight in your home or workplace in ever shifting and uplifting ways.

What are Giclee Prints?

The word Giclée (“g-clay”), is derived from the French verb gicler meaning “to squirt or spray”, Giclee, is used to describe a fine art digital printing process combining pigment based inks with high quality archival quality paper to achieve Giclée prints of superior archival quality, light fastness and stability. Our Giclée prints are created using an Epson 9880 with Epson Ultrachrome K3 inks, which with the 8 channel print head is capable of producing an extremely wide tonal range and colour gamut.
The Giclée printing process involves squirting or spraying microscopic dots of pigment-based ink onto high quality art paper or canvas. The image is colour corrected to attain the closest possible match to the original work if required. The digital information is fine tuned to the type of paper or surface on which the image is to be printed, further ensuring fidelity to the original.
Giclée prints are printed on a variety of substrates or mediums, the most common being cotton rag, canvas or Baryta paper. We only use genuine artist papers. Cotton rag or ‘watercolour’ Giclée paper has been popular for many years of Giclée printing.

What is an Original - and how long does it take to paint an original?

I often get asked "How long does it take you to paint an original?"

The simple answer is "All my life!"

These oil on canvas paintings are the culmination of a decades of work. That works includes both mastery of oil painting techniques, and mastering of the energy and information that I turn into artwork. This learning will never cease. The more I learn about how my art moves people, the more I evolve as an artist.

Original Oil on Canvas artwork is built upon many washes of colour, textures and oriental papers to obtain a delicate textured surface that feels vibrant, alive and unique. These are finished with thin and dense layers of oil paint on canvas to reflect a beautiful luminosity into your living or work space.

How is Louis' Artwork valued?

Pricing Original Oil On Canvas work over the years has been based on three main factors. The first is by size and intricacy. The larger and more intricate a piece is, the longer it takes to create. The second is the value transmitted to the viewer. If the the artwork truly does its intentional job.. to light you up from the inside out, then the short answer to the value to you is "priceless". And the third element is the confidence and evolution of the artist, both in consciousness, mastery, and technique.

The graph below gives you some indication of how Louis' artwork has increased in value since 2003 (when he began painting full time) to 2017. These prices are largely based on commissioned originals, (known as SoulScapes) but give a clear indication of how collectors world-wide have valued his work.

Value has also been greatly created by having artwork auctioned at the Caudwell Butterfly Ball for £120,000, and by his international guest artist residency at Four Seasons Resorts and Hotels.

A recent collector who bought a piece in 2018 was thrilled when they realised that the replacement value of apiece they had bought in 2008 for £850 was now in the region of £6500.

How should I pick an original?

I have been thrilled to have my paintings described this way:

“Astonishing abstract paintings that sing the infinite songs of Spirit manifesting on the radiant cusp of form and formlessness. The painting technique is sophisticated, replete with complex weaves of staining the canvas, thin washes, thicker brushwork, and impassioned impasto, such that the worked materials are a symphony in their own right.” Michael Schwarz – Integral Art Gallery

I deliberately create art in such way that you partake in the experience that the surface of the painting transmits. In this way, you will find yourself in the piece that is right for you. One of them will speak to you more than the others. Maybe its yours!

What is the Alchemy Collection?

The Alchemy collection answers the questions: "When are you in your element?"

The Alchemy Collection explores how we embody unique qualities of energy in nature. These paintings are the culmination of over fifteen years of SoulScaping. Through this time I have noticed a number of patterns being shared in my consultations. These unique signatures form the energetic basis of these artworks.

"Alchemy" is the ancient pursuit of combining elements to miraculously create gold. When these energy patterns combine, in the form of relationships, something new, fresh and alive emerges.
